Santos de Cartier Watches

In 1904, Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont shared his frustration with Louis Cartier: using a pocket watch whilst piloting was impractical and dangerous. Cartier's ingenious solution was revolutionary – a wristwatch with a highly legible dial, square case and secure strap designed to keep time within arm's reach during crucial moments. This innovation didn't just solve a practical problem; it fundamentally changed watchmaking, establishing the Santos as one of Cartier's first major successes in popularising wristwatches.

Over a century later, the Santos remains a masterpiece of design and engineering. The collection has evolved into two distinct lines – the Santos de Cartier and Santos Dumont – each honouring the original's legacy whilst meeting the needs of the modern wearer. Whether you prefer striking design or refined elegance, the Santos collection features timepieces of rare sophistication.

The Cartier Santos Watch Features

Our Cartier Santos collection showcases two distinguished interpretations, each with its own character and appeal.

The Santos de Cartier combines bold design with contemporary refinement, available in both Cartier Santos medium and large models. The distinctive square case and signature exposed bezel screws create an unmistakable statement of modern elegance. The dials showcase Cartier's meticulous craftsmanship with carefully finished surfaces and sophisticated colour options, including the striking Cartier Santos green dial, the sporty black Cartier Santos and the refined Cartier Santos blue dial. The newest additions feature the all-titanium Santos with bead-blasted finish and silver-plated dial, and the stainless steel Santos with black dial – both with luminous hands and automatic movements. These Cartier Santos men's and women’s watches come with interchangeable metal bracelets and leather straps featuring the innovative QuickSwitch system for seamless style switching.

The Santos Dumont embodies refined elegance and heritage craft. With a slimmer, more graceful profile that honours the watch's original 1904 aviation spirit, this collection appeals to discerning collectors and those who value refined heritage watchmaking and timeless elegance. Available in quartz, automatic and mechanical movements, the Santos Dumont offers versatility for every wearer. Our skeleton dial variants showcase Cartier's manufacturing excellence with openwork mechanics visible through the crystal – a transparent celebration of craftsmanship.

Santos Dumont timepieces are finished with refined details and available in precious metals including rose gold, yellow gold and steel, offering a range of dial styles and hand designs. Each watch represents Cartier's commitment to watchmaking artistry and delivers refined elegance with understated sophistication.
