Fit For A King: Berry’s Unveils A Modernised Crown

Renowned for exquisite jewellery and luxury watches, national jeweller, Berry’s has unveiled its latest masterpiece – a digital adaptation of King Charles III’s Coronation crown, with a modern twist.

Inspired by the rich history and regal elegance of the original, Berry’s newly designed crown is a modern reinvention of the original and includes stunning pieces from its own exclusive coronation collection that resonate with today’s fashion and jewellery trends. Adorned with emerald, oval, and round brilliant cut diamonds and coloured gemstones including aquamarines, sapphires and rubies, Berry’s team of in-house designers have created a contemporary, yet classic concept.

The Berry’s edition of the famed Coronation crown features yellow and white gold bands, both hugely popular in 2023, and a stunning orb which creates a modern fusion of mixed metals – another popular trend for jewellery lovers. The rubover, claw, and halo settings, which date thousands of years back, are combined to create a contemporary look with the gemstones. While yellow gold was deemed to have gone out of fashion last decade, the use of the metal in this reimagined headpiece marks its comeback and prominence in the jewellery industry this year.

The King’s Coronation crown, St Edward’s Crown, was first created in 1937 for the coronation of King George VI and was of course used to crown Queen Elizabeth II during her televised coronation ceremony in 1953. It is considered to be one of the most iconic symbols of the British monarchy, often dubbed the centrepiece of the Crown Jewels.

The 3D render of Berry’s crown combines a white gold lower band and a yellow gold upper crown. To add grandeur to the crown, the stones are repeated five times around the full band making them visible upon rotation at any angle. The design is set against a dark backlit background to emulate how it would look on display in a museum.

Speaking of the design, Berry’s jewellery designer, Emily Holdich said,

“We’re so excited to finally reveal this concept! As a family-owned, British heritage brand, we hold the Royal family in high regard and recreating the crown has been a passion project for us – being able to incorporate our most popular gemstones into such a classic design has been a real privilege.”
