The Speedmaster Moonwatch is a professional chronograph first launched in 1957 and later immortalised on the lunar surface in 1969. Originally created for motorsport timing with its tachymeter bezel, the Speedmaster was formally flight-qualified by NASA in 1965 after proving itself the only watch to survive their rigorous qualification tests, and has been on every crewed NASA mission since. All 12 people who have ever walked on the Moon were equipped with the Speedmaster as part of their mission. Since then, its 42mm case, tricompax dial layout and manual-wind movement have remained remarkably consistent, preserving a timeless aesthetic while embracing technical advances including Co-Axial escapements and METAS certified precision.

Hesalite crystal models remain closest to the original NASA-qualified design, with domed crystal, solid engraved caseback and black dial for an authentic tool watch feel. Sapphire crystal versions introduce scratch-resistant clarity and an exhibition caseback revealing the manually wound Calibre 3861 with Co-Axial escapement, 50-hour power reserve and METAS certified precision. The white dial model takes its cue from the colours of astronaut spacesuits, with contrasting black details and a glossy lacquered finish. Moonshine Gold models blend OMEGA's proprietary 18ct gold with ceramic bezels, green or gold-toned dials and a choice of matching bracelets, leather or rubber straps. Reverse dial variants add contemporary contrast while retaining the tachymeter bezel and tricompax chronograph layout that define the Moonwatch.
