Deep-dive into Summer with the TUDOR Pelagos

TUDOR Pelagos

One area that TUDOR has been heavily focusing on over recent years is the evolution of its Pelagos watch series – a family of distinctively modern dive watches. The luxury watchmaker (sister company to Rolex) has done well to develop the Pelagos watch into an entity of its own, rather than an adaptation of a model from the brand’s historical catalogue. This collection was first launched by TUDOR back in 2012 but received a significant update in 2015 when experts at the Swiss brand outfitted the no-frills dive watch with an in-house developed movement.

At the same time, it released an attractive iteration of the Pelagos dive watch with a striking blue dial and bezel. Just 12 months later, left-handed enthusiasts were treated to the Pelagos LHD model with a crown situated at 9 o’clock as opposed to the conventional 3 o’clock position. Since then, the Pelagos watch collection has been growing and growing and now hosts models that have been designed specifically for the French Marine Nationale, as well as professional saturation divers and vintage watch enthusiasts alike.

Up to this point, there was only one thing that the TUDOR Pelagos watch collection didn’t offer and that was a lightweight model developed for the smaller-sized wrist. TUDOR answered this need last year with the TUDOR Pelagos 39mm watch, crafted from titanium and presented in a much smaller offering compared to the original 42mm model. That said, the 42mm is far from unpopular and comes in a choice of a black dial and bezel or a blue dial and bezel. Both can be explored in more detail here at Berry’s Jewellers:

Why does the TUDOR Pelagos make such a great daily tool watch?

As is the case for any leading luxury watch brand, there are significant qualities worth appreciating in a well-made dive watch, whether you plan to take it underwater or not. To constitute a quality dive watch, a robust case construction, legible luminous hands, sufficient water resistance and a unidirectional rotating bezel are all considered integral, but these features prove valuable in a watch for daily wear too. Here’s a quick guide to some of the best TUDOR Pelagos watches available at Berry’s right now.

The TUDOR Pelagos 39mm

The 39mm version of the TUDOR Pelagos watch was released last year and came without the helium escape valve since it offered a lower water resistance rating. That said, whether you intend to use the watch for scuba diving or not, its 200-meter water resistance is more than capable of withstanding any challenge it is faced with underwater. Lucky for avid fans of the TUDOR Pelagos watch, the design of the latest model still boasts the same linear design and robust case technology that collectors have come to know and love about the model. The watch is crafted from grade 2 titanium and boasts ceramic composite monobloc hour markers that are treated with lashings of luminous material, plus a rapid adjustment system on the bracelet for wearing over the top of thick diving gear. The 39mm option of the TUDOR Pelagos watch collection is also equipped with an in-house MT5400 movement for unbeatable precision.

The TUDOR Pelagos FXD

If you’re looking for something a little more collectable, TUDOR released the Pelagos FXD model back in 2015, developed to a unique set of specifications, since its purpose was intended for members of the French Navy. TUDOR’s relationship with the French Navy spans all the way back to 1856 when an improved water resistance and an oversized crown were later added to its design. The TUDOR Pelagos 42mm For fans of the conventional Pelagos design, however, the 42mm models are equipped with features like a helium escape valve for reducing pressure built up inside the watch, an impressive 500-meter water resistance and a titanium and ceramic rotating bezel for measuring elapsed time underwater. Whether the standard model of the left-handed Pelagos LFD version, these models are all perfect for saturation diving and are equipped with an in-house movement offering an impressive 70-hour power reserve and a date function located at 3 o’clock. You can enjoy these models on a classic black or contemporary deep blue dial, with a ceramic-filled bezel in the same colour.
