Founded in 1860, Officine Panerai can look back on a prestigious history of success and innovation. It was not until 1993 that the company began producing watches for commercial sale. Until then they were refining their expertise in supplying military timepieces to the Italian Navy. Titled the Radiomir watch, these instruments needed to assist the wearer in dark, light-limiting conditions, whilst remaining comfortable on the wrist for hours and hours of wear. Original Panerai watches were the inspiration for the Radiomir 1940 watch collection – a family of watches that have kept many characteristics of their predecessors, whilst adopting new technologies along the way. The designs have a vintage vibe whilst keeping their broad, simple dials for assisting with easy time-reading.
Radiomir 1940 watches have broad, sturdy lugs that have been manufactured from the same piece of steel as the case. This design feature moved away from the familiar wire loops that Officine Panerai created for many of their timepieces. These watches also feature a cylindrical crown instead of the cone shaped one. Officine Panerai also chose to lose the iconic crown-protecting bridge that aroused so much interest when the company began supplying their innovations to the public. Instead, Radiomir 1940 watches evoke more of a classic feel on the wrist, making them great additions to combine with smart casual attire at the weekend as well as an elegant dinner suit and jacket for fancier occasions. Some of the designs have been crafted from a beautiful polished rose gold case, whilst others culminate a contemporary look on the wrist with a sleek black carbon coated case.
The Officine Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio watch is a trusty stainless steel watch with a timeless dial design. The black Arabic dial is easy to reference. The bold applied numerals look at home against the smooth sumptuous dial, accompanied by central hands that demand attention with their chiselled physique. As always, Officine Panerai have chosen a comfortable leather strap to compliment this design. A luxurious brown leather strap fixes around the wrist with a steel buckle and features elegant cream contrast stitching adorned down the sides. A small second sub dial and a date window are two features that are widely used throughout the entire Officine Panerai watch collection, especially the Radiomir 1940 collection. In this model, the features are finished in golden tones to match the Arabic and baton hour track around the edge of the dial.
The Officine Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio watch with a lime green strap and black dial is a playful, attractive design for the lady. It’s 42mm diameter is a nice size for the slender wrist, so it also doubles up as an appealing unisex watch. Powered by the trustworthy and in-house made P.1000 calibre, a 3 day power reserve is perfect for taking away on vacation.
