At Glashutte Original’s manufactory, there are a great many watchmaking processes that still require hand assembly, thus keeping the tradition and the company’s deepest watchmaking secrets alive through each tiempiece. Each year the company opens its doors to thousands of visitors, eager to learn about the various work, ateliers and minor details that go into creating these unique works of art. The unhindered view into Glashutte Original’s manufactory is a similar experience to gaining insight into the delicately crafted automatic movement of a watch through its crisp sapphire crystal caseback. To many, being able to watch the seamless performance of an in-house developed mechanical movement from Glashutte Original, connects them to the manufacturer, as well as allows them to share the same passion and love for all things mechanical and engineering-inspired about the German-based company.

The maison have their own dial manufactory as well as design studios and laboratories that allow specialised teams experts to carry out their work in a spacious environment, inspired by the innovative flair running throughout the veins of the company. Decisive steps are carried out by hand using select materials that combine with state of the art technology to create these exceptional instruments, made with great depth and affection.

Glashutte Original’s automatic movements are housed within iconic timepieces like the PanoMaticLunar watch, the Sixties Chronograph and the Senator Observer. Characteristic details of the Senator Automatic watch include; bevelled edges, a swan-neck fine adjustment, a skeletonised rotor, three quarter plate and beautifully polished stainless steel parts. The watch looks similar to the likes of the Senator Excellence watch, which embodies a deep respect for classic and traditional watch manufacture through its clearly assembled dial and purist, simple layout. Available in both a rose gold or stainless steel casing, these watches are accompanied by a smart black leather strap, blue coated central hands and traditional Roman numeral hour indexes. The Glashutte Original Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moonphase watch features a number of technical options like a date aperture at 4 o’clock and an indicator that shows the positioning of the moon each night. The 40mm watch is fitted with the reliable 36-04 movement which is capable of providing a massive 100 hour power reserve, and carries out 28,800 oscillations per hour.

The Glashutte Original Sixties Panorama Date 42mm watch with a deep midnight blue dial, houses the ultra-reliable 39-47 movement with a 40 hour power reserve. As another timepiece that demonstrates the beauty of an independently driven mechanical engine at its heart, the movement has been exquisitely finished with a smooth balance rim, swan-neck fine adjustment, skeletonized rotor with 21 ct gold oscillation weight, bevelled/polished edges and polished steel parts along with a stunning three quarter plate with elegant stripe finish.
