This year, Longines released the Spirit Zulu Time watch – a compact and functional travel-friendly companion that comes with plenty of advantages when it comes to a GMT watch. The design is based on some of the key features of the Heritage collection and boasts a COSC-certified movement with a hallmark to reflect it – the 5 stars stamped onto the surface of its dial. In addition to this, the new Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch enables you to adjust the hour hand without affecting the function of the GMT hand. Available in three colours, these four travel-friendly timepieces convey the design codes of the popular Spirit watch collection released back in 2020 in matte black, sandblasted anthracite and sunray blue.
Longines fortifies its heritage in supplying some of the most reliable and legible pilot’s watches to the aviation history with the release of the Heritage Pilot’s line and, of course, the Spirit watch collection which carries some of these key traits. The Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch also extends on the brand’s history in dual time zone watches, particularly the Zulu Time developed in 1925 and its famous pocket watch that could simultaneously indicate French and Turkish time. Having developed patents for its dual time zone watches, Longines also went on to develop a cockpit clock in 1931 that could indicate two 24-hour time zones in concentric displays. Following this was the sought-after Weems watch measuring a broad 47mm diameter and featuring double hour and minute hands.
The new Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch
The new Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch comes in four versions. The anthracite dial with gold-coloured Arabic numerals and a beige leather strap goes by the reference L3.822.214.171.124. The same design on a stainless steel bracelet is available too, reference L3.8126.96.36.199, whilst a blue dial version with a blue leather band goes by the reference; L3.8188.8.131.52. Lastly, a matte black dial with silver-coloured accents and a brown leather band goes by the reference: L3.8184.108.40.206. All models are powered by the Calibre L844.4, which provides a 72-hour power reserve and beats to the rhythm of 25,200 vibrations per hour. As already mentioned, its COSC certification is demonstrated on the surface of the dial, complete with a 5-year warranty.
All four of the new Longines Spirit Zulu Time watches are crafted from stainless steel and measure a diameter of 42mm and a height of 13.9mm. These cases feature a screw-in crown and a water resistance of 100 meters, assisted by a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective pane of sapphire crystal glass across the front of the watch. Whether opting for the matte black, anthracite or deep blue dial version, the Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch features clear Arabic numerals treated with Super-LumiNova and a date window located at 6 o’clock. The GMT hand on each model is tipped with an arrow-shaped motif (beige for the anthracite models and silver-coloured for the black and blue dial versions), whilst each bezel denotes the additional time zone in a 24-hour scale.
The blue, brown and beige leather bands fitted to the blue, black and anthracite models respectively, all fasten to the wrist with a double folding stainless steel clasp and a micro-adjustment system. The anthracite Longines Spirit Zulu Time watch on a stainless steel bracelet secures to the wrist with a double safety folding clasp and a push-piece opening mechanism.
