From sneakers to luxury yachts to coffee, Fragment Design is a multidisciplinary imprint by Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara that has collaborated with many highly hyped brands such as Nike, Levi’s and Converse. The recent release of the “BVLGARI BVLGARI” Fragment Design” Limited Edition watch marks a creative and daring vision shared between the designer and the famous Rome-born watchmaker. But this is not the first time Bvlgari has worked with the Japanese fashion house. Back in 2020, Bvlgari’s Roma timepiece was given a brushed-effect surface to its metal case and featured a striking minimalist design. Now the new Bvlgari x Fragment “BVLGARI BVLGARI” timepiece follows in the same footsteps with a pared-back design that is both easy to read whilst stripping timekeeping back to the essentials. Despite its simplicity, the watch is also bold and punchy and, thanks to its sporty material strap, will pair incredibly well with casual attire.
the brand’s bold and trailblazing creativity…
The clean spirit of the Bvlgari x Fragment Design partnership is kept intact with the release of this new BVLGARI BVLGARI watch and without a doubt, it is the design of the case that really makes an impact on the wrist here. The new Bvlgari x Fragment Design Limited Edition watch is exclusive to just 600 pieces. The polished stainless steel case measures a 41mm diameter and embodies the brand’s bold and trailblazing creativity, with its specially engraved “BVLGARI FRGMNT” lettering adorned to the surface of the watch’s circular bezel. The Bvlgari reference resides at the northern hemisphere of the bezel, whilst the Fragment logo, seen in an abbreviated form, is positioned at the 6 o’clock end. Traditionally, it is the iconic “BVLGARI BVLGARI” lettering that is normally seen embellished on the surface of the Italian brand’s rings, pendant, and watches from this eclectic range.
Bvlgari flourishes run all the way through…
The rich heritage of the special watch collection boasts some very key stylistic signatures but at the same time, the collaborative watch marks something altogether new for the brand’s future. This watch is powered by an automatic winding movement and Bvlgari flourishes run all the way through the design. Its instantly recognisable case shape is cylindrical in profile and the case is equipped with straight lugs as well as a pillbox crown. Here, on the surface of the crown, the black ceramic insert stamped with the Fragment Design lightning bolt can be seen. The flat and polished bezel is broad and chunky but despite this, the watch does not feel remotely oversized on the wrist. The BVLGARI FRGMNT logo is a discreet and slick nod to the collaboration that follows all the design codes of the brand’s original engraved bezel. The case also offers a suitable 50-meter water resistance and is topped with a pane of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass that has been treated with anti-reflective technology. On the back of the case, the glass is repeated once more, granting a clear and unique view into the performance of the watch’s automatic movement. The Fragment Design lightning bolt is seen once again here, positioned centrally upon the glass. Around this exhibition, glass is the BVLGARI lettering engraved into the steel bodywork, together with a reference to the case’s 50-meter water resistance.
Fully committing once more to a strong minimalistic approach, the dial of this “BVLGARI BVLGARI” x Fragment Design Limited Edition watch has a straightforward and undemanding layout. The hour track forgoes any numerals or indexes, leaving just the brightly polished central hands to indicate the time against the model’s matte black dial. At the 12 o’clock location, the BVLGARI and FRGMTN co-signature can be found. Balancing the dial out at 6 o’clock is the famous lightning bolt logo. Finally, at 3 o’clock there is a simple cut-out date window dressed against a matching black background to remain in-keeping with the uncluttered design of the dial.
At the heart of the BVLGARI x Fragment Design watch is the in-house BVL 191 Solotempo automatic movement, which has been meticulously decorated with a Cotes de Geneve technique across the surface of its circular main bridge and winding rotor. The self-winding engine performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers an impressive power reserve of 42 hours.
It is the strap of the new “BVLGARI BVLGARI” x Fragment Design Limited Edition watch, however, that you cannot miss. Fitted on a black, medium grey and blue striped NATO strap, the band has been designed for optimal comfort but adds a pop of colour to any outfit. Completing its impactful look on the wrist, the NATO strap secures with a polished stainless steel fastening engraved with the famous Bvlgari lettering but the strap can also be switched for an all-black NATO strap, achieving a sleeker and more understated look.
