WoTW: Vacheron Constantin Egerie Moonphase Watch

If you’ve been following Vacheron Constantin for some time (whether that involves admiring their watches from a distance or indulging in a timepiece or two whenever the bank balance looks healthy) you may remember 2003 being quite an iconic year for the Swiss brand. They released their last ladies-only collection of watches. It was called the Egerie watch collection and comprised a line of tonneau-shaped watches – each one endowed with a distinct feminine elegance. Fast forward to today and we now have the second iteration of the Egerie, rocking a new design.

Not only is the Vacheron Constantin Egerie watch collection a celebration of Haute Horology but it also pays tribute to Haute Couture. Since the luxury clothing industry plays such an influential role in today’s fashion, it made perfect sense to Vacheron Constantin that the two ideals be blended together. The Egerie 37mm Moon Phase watch in steel ref: 8005F/120A-B497 recalls the delicate pleating of silk obtained through a unique tapestry process. Like the rest of the collection, its features include a beautifully decorated moon phase display, an off-centre crown and elegantly sculpted blued steel hands.

Now, there are some models from the collection that look more lavish than others. The Vacheron Constantin Egerie Moon Phase Jewellery watch ref: 8016F/126G-B499 for example, is entirely iced out in diamonds. The standard Moon Phase 37mm model we feature in this week’s review, however, scintillates subtly thanks to a bezel set with lustrous diamonds, adding a halo of light around the watch’s fan-textured silvery dial.

The diamond-set bezel and the exquisitely crafted moon phase display are not the only interesting features about this special ladies Vacheron Constantin watch. As we mentioned before, the watch’s silk-like dial provides a luxurious backdrop for the blue tempered hands, but it’s also kissed with elegantly crafted Arabic numerals marking out the hour track, placed uniquely. They slant ever so slightly to the right, adhering to an inconspicuous diagonal line that stretches from the far left of the watch case at 8 o’clock, straight through to the 2 o’clock location, where the crown sits. The illuminated moon phase display sits along this line, bordered in a breath-taking ring of 36 diamonds that frame clouds crafted from mother of pearl and a rich midnight blue sky scattered with stars, where two white gold moons reveal themselves

Other admirable features of this ladies Egerie watch include a cabochon moonstone-adorned crown tip and a sophisticated stainless steel bracelet that will enable you to create a dressier look on the wrist when pairing it with elegant evening attire. The case is also crafted from matching stainless steel, equipped with 30-meter water resistance. It provides adequate protection over the in-house powered self-winding movement that sits at the heart of the timepiece – the Caliber 1088 L. This movement comprises a total of 164 individual parts. If that wasn’t impressive enough – they are all hand-assembled by a Vacheron Constantin expert, before being carefully inspected and put under a series of quality tests. The engine, which performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations, provides a power reserve of 40 hours.

So, if you’ve been waiting for Vacheron Constantin to reinvent something ultra-feminine and sophisticated for some time, this moon phase watch from the Egerie collection is sure to tick all the right boxes. Housed in a durable steel case, yet garnished with diamonds and delicate dial textures, you can enjoy the performance of an exceptionally precise movement whilst simultaneously enjoying the timepiece as a luxury statement-maker. Creating only 25,000 timepieces each year, it’s clear to see how Vacheron Constantin upholds its reputation for making some of the most coveted and highly desirable timepieces in the world. Watches like this lady’s Vacheron Constantin Egerie Moon Phase 37mm model are in such huge demand because they boast the rarity that any true dedicated watch collector, whether male or female, can appreciate in a high-end timepiece.
