Guaranteed – you will never look at your bathroom scales in the same way again after browsing through the new Grip collection of watches by Gucci. The unshakably dynamic collection goes on sale in the UK this September and we can offer the very first glimpse of them here at Berry’s. The seventies-tinged timepieces are yet another masterpiece from Alessandro Michele’s, since taking on the role of Gucci’s creative director four years ago. Every piece of jewellery, accessory, leatherwear item and luxury watch created since then has conveyed the company’s risk-taking and adventure-seeking identity…
The Gucci Grip watches collection is every bit as idiosyncratic as their ever-popular ready-to-wear designs, but this time with an unusual twist. The designs feature a rotating dial that shows the hours, the minutes and a date aperture in cut-out windows upon a flat metal surface. Stylized as the new kind of contemporary, these Gucci watches are a take on a seventy’s revival vibe. Despite harking back to yesteryear, he collection, which is inspired by the world of skateboarding, brings something refreshing and highly desirable to the wrist of the Gucci watch collector.
In the past, Gucci watches have been met with varying degrees of success, no timepieces more popular however, than their unisex models. Gucci have hit the mark once again with this innovative line of Grip watches, since the models can be worn by either male or female connoisseurs, young students, fashion-conscious women or first time collectors. Their case diameters span from a wrist-friendly 35mm to a more daring 38mm – either way – gentlemen with slender wrists or ladies rocking the “tomboy” look will be able to wear these eye-catching timepieces easily. The new Grip watches come in at between £1150.00 and £1320.00 depending on whether you’re opting for an engraved dial surface, a leather band or a slinky rose gold or yellow gold PVD bracelet.
With its subsequent off-shoots, Gucci’s line of Interlocking G watches continues forward, keeping brand DNA at the forefront of each design. The iconic logo can be seen etched into some surfaces of the watch models from the Grip collection – a hallmark that is now associated with boldness and gender neutral fashion. Not all of the Gucci Grip watches feature the famous motif however. Some of the designs feature a smooth stainless steel dial face, crafted from stainless steel, donating an almost industrial-inspired look upon the wrist. Their cases nevertheless, feature the Interlocking G symbol etched into the surface of the stainless steel caseback, designed to sit next to the skin – a discreet and personal detailing that will resonate with any lover of Gucci’s exclusive design finishes. And if you’re new to the brand and would like to see just how much the Italian manufacturer has transformed the iconic Interlocking G motif over the years – you may want to take a look at the diamond set models, the black ion-plated designs and the ladies rose gold PVD coated and yellow gold PVD coated watches from the Interlocking G collection – in many ways the symbol has become an anchor for a large proportion of Gucci’s catalogue.
Gucci intend their Grip watches to mimic the way in which a rider’s sneakers stick to the grip tape of their skateboard. Their clean and streamlined designs offer a retro flare that will be welcomed by anyone in favour of watches with a vintage-inspired casual sportiness. Our current collection of Gucci Grip watches at Berry’s features three timepieces with the Interlocking G motif-engraved case front – two of which span a 35mm diameter (a yellow gold PVD version and stainless steel version) and the larger stainless steel 38mm timepiece. All three are completed on a matching metal link bracelet, yet the designs are also integrated with the brand’s exclusive interchangeable quick release strap technology, where a plethora of different straps can be styled on each watch – a total of 46 to be exact. The other two versions from our collection include 35mm models dressed in yellow gold PVD and classic stainless steel – each dressed on a leather strap – one deep green and the other bordeaux. All of the timepieces are powered by an ultra-accurate quartz movement and offer 30 meter water resistance.
So…. if you’re looking for a unique take on the traditional way of telling the time, the new Gucci Grip watch line will certainly grant you that. With the hours at the top of the case, clicking round on a rotating dial – the minutes feature in the middle and a date window to help keep on top of day-to-day life – the unisex Gucci Grip watches accentuate the blossoming skateboarding craze that roared through the seventies whilst transcending time as always.
